I am the mother of four children and a buyer of garments and goods in your store. Your range of items and competitive prices are attractive to someone like me who is looking for reasonable quality at a good price. However, my future custom is currently on hold as I require certain assurances in order for you to retain my future buying loyalty.
The recent tragedy in Bangladesh has been a shocking wake-up call. It is imperative that the garment manufacturing industry is conducted in an ethical manner, where workers in countries such as Bangladesh, are paid a decent wage and work in conditions that are safe and non-exploitative.
I am writing to ask what assurances you can give me, and the public, that your company is not only committed to these standards, but is actively ensuring that these standards are met.
I do not want to be part of a consumer-cycle where my desire for well-priced clothing comes about through the suffering of working people (particularly women and children) in the developing world. I do not want my children wearing clothing that is any way connected with child labour, exploitation or unsafe working conditions. This is my responsibility as a parent, as a consumer and as a decent human being.
I believe that most people would rather pay more for an item of clothing that came with a guarantee that it was ethically produced. Please give your customers credit for having a conscience and please take a stand to ensure that you have one too.
With these assurances and knowledge I would continue to shop in your store, support your brands and recommend them to others.
